Islington Waste Recycling Centre

Project Details

Project summary

Phoenix ACR was tasked with enhancing the HVAC system at Islington’s waste recycling centre in London. The installation featured nine Daikin condensers serving six separate Air Handling Units (AHUs), controlled by a Trend Building Management System (BMS).

Location

Islington, London

Equipment

1 x Daikin ERQ100AV1
1 x Daikin ERQ125AV1
2 x Daikin ERQ200AW1
5 x Daikin ERQ250AW1

About the project

Challenges: The primary challenge was the height of the installation and ensuring the system could handle the centre’s demanding environment efficiently.

Solutions Provided: Phoenix ACR installed nine Daikin condensers that fed into six AHUs. The AHUs were configured with varying coil stages: one AHU had a three-stage coil, another had a two-stage coil, and the remaining four had single-stage coils. The installation included extensive pipework, supported by galvanised Unistrut steel tray work and Störnch anti-vibration rubber feet to minimize noise and vibration. The Trend BMS was integrated to provide advanced control and monitoring capabilities.

Implementation Process:

  • Lifting and Positioning: Using a crane, the Daikin condensers were carefully hoisted to the rooftop, ensuring precision and safety.
  • Pipework and Connections: Extensive, neatly organized pipework was installed to connect the condensers and AHUs.
  • Electrical and Control Setup: Complex electrical work integrated the new units with the facility’s Trend BMS, ensuring seamless operation and advanced control.

Outcome and Benefits: The new Daikin DX system significantly improved climate control within the recycling centre, enhancing operational efficiency and comfort. The advanced features of the Daikin units, combined with the Trend BMS, ensured reliable performance and better energy management.
